Actors House Selection Process

To ensure we put the right ensemble together for this challenging creative process we run an audition workshop the week before regular sessions begin. This will be a practical devising workshop delivered by the creative team as a demonstration of the ‘Actors House’ process. After this workshop, those who still wish to be considered for a place will either be invited to join the company or given reasons as to why they have not been selected.

Course Information

‘Actors House’ has, over the years, become an OTW experience much sought after by those nearing the age of eligibility. You still might not be able to vote at the age of 16 but you can drive a moped, get married, join a trade union (!) and join ‘Actor’s House’.

The approach is largely based on collaborative creation through improvisatory work. There is no script to begin with, just a room full of young artists, an experienced creative team and the glowing ember of an idea. There is always a lot of laughing, sometimes some crying, occasionally some arguing and out of it comes (without exception) new theatre that is not afraid to take risks and that takes its audience on a new adventure.

To laugh is to risk appearing a fool,
To weep is to risk appearing sentimental.
To reach out to another is to risk involvement,
To expose feelings is to risk exposing your true self.
To place your ideas and dreams before a crowd is to risk their loss.
To love is to risk not being loved in return,
To live is to risk dying,
To hope is to risk despair,
To try is to risk failure.
But risks must be taken because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.
The person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, is nothing.”
